What I Tried First
Everything I Tried Before.
And Why Nothing Worked.
I wasn't passive about this. I researched. I spent hours reading about foot mechanics and pain relief. I tried almost everything the internet and my doctor suggested.
Attempt #1
The "Barefoot" Approach
A physical therapist told me to try minimalist shoes. The theory made sense. The reality? Six weeks of even more pain before I gave up. My feet weren't ready, and nothing was guiding them there.
Didn't Help
Attempt #2
The Cushioned Shoe Trap
Maximum cushion. Memory foam. Gel insoles. They delivered for about two days. Then my feet adapted. Thick, rigid cushioning can actually weaken the muscles it's supposed to help. Your foot stops doing any work because the shoe does it all.
Temporary Fix
Attempt #3
Orthopedic Shoes
These did help. I won't lie. But when I stopped wearing them, the pain came back. I wasn't getting better. I was just dependent on them.
Made Me Dependent
"Your orthotics are doing the work your feet should be learning to do themselves." That is what my podiatrist finally told me. And that is when everything changed.
